Here are the steps to follow for admission to the Second Chance Center:
Pre-Conviction
If an individual has been arrested for a criminal charge and has an alcohol or drug problem he can seek admission to Second Chance Center pending disposition of the charges by doing the following:
- Submit an application to Second Chance Center;
- If admitted, an acceptance letter is sent to the individual and this letter should be forwarded to his attorney;
- The attorney should get the conditions of release changed so the individual can report to and complete the program at Second Chance Center (approximately 6 months) pending disposition of the charges;
- The attorney should get an order allowing the individual to report to the program within a certain time period. If the Judge requires secure transport of the individual to the Center this can be arranged with the help of the Center and is paid for by the individual;
- Second Chance Center will provide notice of the individual’s arrival at Second Chance to the Court and monthly reports of his progress;
- After successfully completing the program a final report will be provided to the graduate and this report can be used to obtain a favorable disposition of his criminal proceeding.
Post Conviction
If an individual has been convicted of a crime through plea or conviction after trial, or has violated probation, and the individual has a serious drug or alcohol problem he should do the following:
- Submit an application to Second Chance Center;
- If admitted, an acceptance letter is sent to the individual and this letter should be forwarded to his attorney;
- The attorney should ask that the individual be ordered to enter and successfully complete the program at Second Chance Center either pending final sentencing or as a condition of probation;
- If it is a condition of probation the individual should be placed on unsupervised probation;
- The attorney should get an order allowing the individual to report to the program within a certain time period. If the Judge requires secure transport of the individual to the Center this can be arranged with the help of the Center and is paid for by the individual;
- Second Chance Center will provide the Court notice of the individual’s arrival, monthly progress reports and a final report of completion.
We only accept sentencing that stipulates the completion of the program. This is because it is important to complete all steps of the program to get the full result. Failure to fully complete the program does affect the effectiveness of the overall result of the program and impacts the effectiveness of the Reintegration Module, helping the individual reintegrate successfully with family and society.
